SWIFT Professional Development Fellowships - Focus on Women: CALL FOR
APPLICATIONS

The final round of the SWIFT fellowship scheme is now open for
applications! SWIFT is looking to recruit postdoctoral early career OR
early career professionals working in weather and climate research and
applied social and natural scientists working in the fields of African
weather systems. Fellows may apply to work with a SWIFT partner
organisation in Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Niger or Kenya. For further
information visit our website at
https://africanswift.org/opportunities-work-study/ [1] (where all
application documents can be downloaded), or email me
(l.h.youds@leeds.ac.uk) for further information and guidance.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 6th December 2019.
All applications documents should be submitted to the SWIFT Project
Office (NCASSwift@leeds.ac.uk).

We expect to make two awards in this final call for applications, with a
strong focus on the physical science research themes.

Essential qualifications and skills for the SWIFT Fellowship Scheme

a) Post-doctoral qualification or equivalent experience (5 years'
relevant professional experience gained within the last 10 years) and a
master's degree.

b) A strong understanding of the SWIFT research theme selected for
study.

c) A good working knowledge of spoken and written English.

Female Applicants

GCRF African SWIFT is committed to trying to achieve gender balance and
diversity in its activities. We recognise that there are significant
obstacles for female applicants in applying for and carrying out
research fellowships such as this where travel is usually required. In
order to redress the gender balance, we have made this second and final
call for the SWIFT fellowships flexible in location and in terms of
travel required (to allow for familial commitments) and with a focus on
women's professional development in SSA.

GCRF African SWIFT recognises that female applicants who are not coming
from a research background may need support in submitting their
proposals and/or documents that display the applicant's ability to
publish written work. If you have concerns around this, please do not be
put off applying, but contact the GCRF African SWIFT Programme Manager,
Dr Lorraine Youds (l.h.youds@leeds.ac.uk), to discuss your application.

Please note that female applicants may request support on submitting
their application from SWIFT Programme Manager, Dr Loraine Youds
(l.h.youds@leeds.ac.uk) and/or, nominated SWIFT partner female mentors:
